Malin Gyllensvaan is a Swedish textile designer and illustrator whose main method is gouache, a water-based paint. Her practice is highly intuitive, and she enjoys the best stage of the process when the pre-sketch is done, and the brush meets the paper. Growing up in the Swedish countryside of Småland, Malin’s main playground was nature. The magical and intrinsic world of florals, birds, and organic shapes she experienced as a child is still to this day her main source of inspiration.
‘I think my art is still based on the wild
imagination of the little countryside
girl I once was.’
In this collaboration, Malin has created two prints exclusively painted to decorate Odd Molly’s designs. She was given a mood board and a color card, and from there, she sourced her own inspiration, made sketches, and painted the art on cotton paper. The prints were then digitally printed onto 100% organic cotton.
‘I’m amazed to see the final result of these
prints. They look almost as if they were painted
directly onto the styles.’
