Take care of your favorites

We want your Odd Molly garments to last as long as possible, so we've put together some tips on how to care for them. By following these simple steps, you'll be able to enjoy your favorite pieces for a long time.

General advice

  • Always follow the washing instructions carefully.
  • Sort your clothes by temperature and color.
  • When handwashing, make sure to use the right temperature and detergent.
  • Avoid rubbing, twisting, or soaking your garments.
  • Use a laundry bag to protect delicate items.
  • Secure zippers, velcro straps or loose items and empty the pockets before washing.
  • Protect your favorite Odd Molly pieces with delicate embellishments like embroidery, sequins, or crocheted trims by washing them in a laundry bag.
  • Avoid drying your clothes in direct sunlight.
  • Turn colored or printed garments inside out to preserve the colors.
  • Iron or steam your clothes instead of tumble-drying.
  • To avoid damaging your garment, iron it on the inside or use a damp cloth as a barrier between the fabric and the iron.

Think of the environment

  • Wash your clothes only when necessary. No need to overdo it - if your favorite piece isn't totally trashed, just spot clean the stains and give it a breath of fresh air.
  • Use eco-labeled detergents and fabric softeners. Or better yet, ditch the fabric softener. It's bad for the planet and filled with harsh chemicals. Let's keep it clean and green.
  • Avoid using too much detergent.
  • Don't throw away your old clothes - donate, recycle, or sell them second-hand.

How to care for different materials

How to care for different materials
Caring for your favorite Odd Molly pieces is a breeze. Let's start with wool - a natural fiber that's resistant to dirt and odors. To keep your woolen garments fresh, simply remove any stains and air them out. When washing, use a detergent designed for wool, and avoid tumble drying or scrubbing, as this can cause the fibers to felt and shrink. You can also use a fabric comb or pilling remover to remove any loose fibers or pills.

Viscose, on the other hand, is a man-made fabric that's similar to silk. It's delicate when wet, so be gentle when washing, and avoid tugging on the garment. Hang or dry flat, and then iron or steam to restore its original shape. Since viscose can be prone to frizz and pilling, wash it inside out to minimize damage.

Cotton is a bit more straightforward - it can withstand washing at 60 degrees, but be gentle, especially if your garment has delicate details like crocheted trims or embroidery. To reduce shrinkage, follow the washing instructions, and consider washing at a lower temperature. Most Odd Molly cotton garments are pre-shrunk, but they can still lose their shape during washing. To avoid this, carefully tug on the garment to restore its original shape before hanging it up to dry.

Cashmere is a luxurious fiber that's delicate and requires extra care. Since it's naturally resistant to dirt and odors, you don't need to wash it after every use. Simply air it out, or freshen it up by steaming or putting it in the freezer. When washing, use a detergent designed for wool, and avoid scrubbing or using electric fabric shavers, as these can damage the fibers.

Silk is another exclusive fabric that requires gentle care. It doesn't attract moisture and dirt like cotton, so you don't need to wash it as often. When you do, use a detergent designed for delicate fabrics, and hand wash or dry clean. Silk garments may look a bit rough after washing, but they'll become soft and shiny again after steaming or ironing.

Denim is a bit more low-maintenance - just treat any stains, and freshen up your jeans by steaming or putting them in the freezer. When washing, follow the instructions, and consider hand washing in cold water or machine washing at 30 degrees. Turn your jeans inside out before washing, and line dry them to prevent shrinkage and fading. Never tumble-dry your jeans. They can shrink and develop unattractive “stripes”.

Finally, leather and suede garments don't need to be washed often. Just remove any stains, and air them out. If you need to wash them, take them to a professional cleaner who specializes in leather and suede. With dark-colored leather or suede, there's a risk of dry-crocking, so be careful when wearing them with bright colors.
